86 year old former IIT Kanpur Professor GD Agrawal aka Swami Gyan Swaroop Sanand passed away on Thursday, after 111 days of fast, unto death for the conservation of mother river Ganga.

Swami Sanand had been fasting since June 22 over a number of demands including ban on illegal mining in the Ganga, and the construction of hydro-power projects in the river be stopped.
