Freeze Warning To Be Issued For Metro Atlanta, North Georgia

GEORGIA — Freezing temperatures can be expected in the metro Atlanta and north Georgia mountain areas both Monday and Tuesday, said Nick Morgan, meteorologist with the National Weather Service’s Peachtree City office.

A freeze warning will go into effect at 11 p.m. Monday for metro Atlanta counties and will end at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Morgan told Patch the warning will be reissued Tuesday night.

He said the low temperatures are due to a cold front that entered the state from the northwest, causing rain Sunday. The front traveled southeast.

Temperatures can get as low as 27 degrees Monday and Tuesday nights for metro Atlanta while higher elevations in the mountains could see temperatures in the lower 20s.

People in the metro area can expect highs in the mid- to upper 50s Monday afternoon and lows in the 50s Tuesday afternoon, Morgan said.

Temperatures should start to warm up Wednesday with highs in the upper 50s to low 60s, sneaking into the mid- to upper 60s Thursday.

Rain is not forecast for the next few days, Morgan said.

Morgan encouraged people to protect their plants and cover above ground water pipes. He said pipes should be wrapped, drained and dripped slowly.
