RCB were not too busy during the IPL 2023 mini-auction and did buy most of the players they wanted. One such player was the uncapped Avinash Singh.
Avinash joined RCB for Rs 60 lakh and is yet to play senior cricket. The pacer from Jammu is yet to play state cricket and actually impressed RCB by bowling in the nets.
Avinash spoke to The Indian Express and revealed that he wanted to join the Indian Army. When he failed the fitness test, he planned to shift to Canada.
“I wanted to join the Army, cricket was just a hobby. I never played with the mindset that one day I might have to play professionally,” he told The Indian Express.
Who is Avinash Singh? He’d never played professional leather ball cricket until Hinterland Scouting introduced us to this new Jammu and Kashmir pace sensation. Find out more on who he is, and what RCB’s plans are.#PlayBold #WeAreChallengers #IPL2023 pic.twitter.com/NXloftaWqJ

“I was planning to go to Canada, and my father also was against this idea (of cricket). I didn’t have money to buy shoes with spikes. Our financial condition is not good. Two of my brothers are studying, I was doing nothing. My father was the sole breadwinner. He asked where would you buy a kit from. He was right, cricket kits are costly. So, I started making excuses to Mayank sir. He told me about their financial condition. I requested him (Avinash’s father) to give him a year, and if nothing happens, send him to Canada,” he added.

Avinash admits he was reluctant to get into cricket and never thought of becoming a professional. Since then, he’s come a long way and is all set to share the dressing room with players like Virat Kohli and Glenn Maxwell
