BOWIE, MD — A new veterinary office focusing on spay and neuter surgeries for pets has opened in Bowie.
Called Bowie Spay & Neuter, the practice is owned by longtime Bowie resident and veterinarian Dr. Alison Mocko. She’s been practicing veterinary medicine for 27 years and for the past two decades has focused on shelters and high-volume, high-quality spay and neuter services. She decided that it was time to open her own practice, which she did this year.
“Bowie Spay & Neuter provides spay & neuter surgeries for healthy pets available to any person without residency or income requirements. We’re not a non-profit, so we are unable to provide lower cost services to those with financial need however. We are able to provide lower-cost services compared to a full-service veterinary clinic, because our clinic is set up to do only spay and neuter,” Mocko told Patch.

Since the spay and neuter clinic remains stocked with the tools and medications a full-service clinic needs and is for healthy pets, clients do not meet with the doctor prior to surgery, Mocko explained.
“We will call if there are any concerns found on physical exam before surgery. That being said, we always recommend that clients have an initial exam with a full-service clinic prior to surgery. We do offer other services, such as core vaccinations, nail trims or microchip implant at the time of surgery,” Mocko said.
