Lake County Sheriff’s Office Deputy John Forlenza and K9 Dax were called to the area of Mulberry Lane and Holly Drive at about 12:15 a.m. on May 21 to try and locate the missing juveniles, authorities said. Authorities say they were told that at least one of the juveniles was at a party and intoxicated and at some point, returned to her home, Lake County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli told Patch.
K9 Dax tracked the juvenile’s scent for about a half-mile and found the juvenile hiding in a yard in the 1300 block of Mulberry Lane in Crystal Lake at about 1:30 a.m. She was treated by paramedics and safely turned over to her guardian. The other juvenile was also located, Covelli said.

K9 Dax is among 10 Lake County Sheriff’s Office police dogs tasked with tracking down missing and endangered people, fleeing felons and are credited with saving dozens of lives over the last few years, Covelli said. The police dogs also often assist police departments across Lake County and in other collar counties.
“Our canine teams are invaluable,” he said.
