CM Punk/AEW issues believed to have been settled, Collision debut set for Chicago

The issues between CM Punk and AEW are believed to have been settled and the Collision debut show at Chicago's United Center will be announced on tonight's AEW Dynamite.

Both Fightful and PWTorch first reported various parts of the story earlier Wednesday.

It's unknown how Punk's return will be announced: either directly or in a manner similar to what happened with his promotional debut at the August 2021 Rampage from the United Center. He was never directly announced as appearing, but AEW leaned into the rumors that he was.

Punk has been tied to the Collision show as AEW has been considering split rosters with wrestlers like Miro, Andrade El Idolo, Powerhouse Hobbs, and others also working weekly on Saturdays on TNT.

Tony Khan said last week that he would announce the location of the Saturday, June 17th debut on tonight's Dynamite. Our Dave Meltzer reported that Jacksonville's Daily's Place had been considered as a backup in case Punk and AEW couldn't come to terms.

The ride with both Punk and AEW to get to this place has been bumpy with the latest turn being that issues arose last Wednesday regarding the rehiring of longtime Punk friend Ace Steel. Steel and Punk were part of the now-infamous brawl following Punk's All Out post-even press conference in September 2022 that also included the Young Bucks and Kenny Omega.

It's unknown if the issues on Steel have been resolved, but the problems were enough to have Punk's name removed from an early version of a Collision press release last Wednesday during the WBD upfront. SI's Jimmy Traina pointed out that Punk's name was listed in the original headline for the release with WBD later releasing a statement that Punk wasn't affiliated with the show.

Fightful reported earlier Wednesday that Punk was asked to sign legal papers restricting him from speaking about certain topics and requiring him to return to action.

Punk, who has been healing from a torn triceps injury suffered at All Out, has not been mentioned on AEW TV since that pay-per-view. The Bucks and Omega were suspended while Steel was fired. No one has spoken publicly about the incident due to what is assumed to be threatened legal action. It's also been reported that issues between all sides have yet to be resolved.
