CM Punk’s return to AEW has officially been confirmed.
Tony Khan announced on Wednesday’s Dynamite that the former two-time AEW World Champion will make his return on the first episode of Collision, set to premiere Saturday, June 17 on TNT from the United Center in Chicago, Illinois.
Punk has not been part of AEW television since last September when he and Ace Steel were involved in a backstage fight with The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega following comments Punk made at the All Out media scrum.
Punk has been recovering from a torn triceps suffered during his match against Jon Moxley at All Out while Steel was eventually fired after the incident.
In recent months, there had been reports that AEW would be launching a new two-hour show that would feature Punk as one of the top acts of the show. AEW officially announced Collision two weeks ago as part of the WBD upfront, but negotiations between Punk and AEW over his involvement hit a snag over the status of Steel, who he had expected to be backstage as a producer for Collision events.
Punk's name was removed from the Collision announcement a day before the show was officially announced.
Dave Meltzer reported in last week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Punk and AEW eventually came to an agreement to return to television. Steel, fired shortly after the incident, has since been hired back by AEW but in a remote position.
