LA GRANGE, IL – Lyons Township High School plans to spend more than $200,000 on replacing security cameras and adding new ones to get better coverage.

At this week’s school board meeting, officials spoke about the project during a discussion of capital spending.
“My understanding is that (the cameras) are all functioning fine right now, but we’re upgrading and adding a lot more cameras,” Brian Stachacz, the school’s director of business services, told the board.

Principal Jennifer Tyrrell said two administrators worked with representatives from an outside company to find the “blind spots” on the two campuses.
Board President Dawn Aubert asked, “From a timing perspective, we feel we can wait two years to roll this out?”

Superintendent Brian Waterman said the school has been updating cameras every year for the last decade.
“We’re always looking for the latest technology and adding cameras,” he said. “We’re never going to be done with this.”
In early May, a fight resulted in a student’s serious injuries and the arrests of two other students. It was at North Campus’ Exit 7. It is unclear whether any blind spots exist there.
