ILLINOIS — AT&T U Verse customers are reporting a widespread outage in Oak Lawn, Evergreen Park, Hometown, Alsip, the Paloses and Chicago Ridge. Many have jumped on neighborhood Facebook groups and Downdetector to report that they are getting few answers from AT&T customer service about an estimated restoration time. We know this comes as a shock to many readers since AT&T customer service is usually so friendly and helpful (insert sarcasm emoji here).
The outage appears to mostly be affecting U-Verse TV and internet , which has been down since Saturday and Sunday for customers in all of the aforementioned communities when subzero temperatures began plummeting in the region.
As of Monday morning, an Evergreen Park woman told Patch she had been on hold for 2.5 hours waiting to speak to an AT&T customer service representative. She, like many other area residents, stated that according to the AT&T app there are no outages in our area.

Thousands of customers nationwide are reporting that they cannot access AT&T services. Per Downdetector:
“How about ATT CUSTOMER SERVICE jumping in and let us know what is going on with the OUTAGES here in Northern Illinois and what we should expect!!”
“Tech support just told me it is the equipment in Chicago that was damaged due to weather. No time frame to fix. No options other [than] cancel uverse and switch to ATT Stream. Cannot have both at same time. If I cancel, I am not staying with ATT!”
“What I’m really concerned about is if the current outage might have been caused by a foreign country introducing some kind of denial of service malicious malware into AT&T system. If that’s the case people may be without service for quite a while.”
In an announcement on AT&T’s U-verse service page, the company said it is aware of a nationwide UVerse (IPTV) outage and “are working to restore services as quickly as possible.”
