This hire is in addition to a new head of security and nine new building monitors and teachers who joined the Hillsborough School District in January.
Superintendent Michael Volpe elaborated on the backgrounds of the new building monitors at the Feb. 12 meeting.

The building monitors are all retired law enforcement officers including a retired officer, retired detective, retired sergeant, and multiple retired lieutenants.
The district is still looking to hire three more building monitors. Former Randolph Police Chief David Stokoe, who was hired for the new position of Coordinator of School Security Operations, is currently actively searching for applicants.
“Everybody we are bringing to the schools not only do they have prior law enforcement experience but they have some kind of interaction with kids,” said Volpe. “These are highly qualified individuals.”
The new positions and hirings were the result of the passage by voters of the school referendum questions on school security and teacher staffing on the November 2023 ballot.
The $934,636 security referendum allocated funds to be used exclusively to create a security department, including salaries and other compensation, benefits, uniforms, and supplies for a supervisor and nine building monitors.
The second part of the referendum was for $1,901,880 in funds to be used exclusively to hire 20 additional staff to reduce class sizes and add program offerings, interventionists, and mental health supports, and will include salaries, benefits, and classroom supplies.
