WATCH: Hofstra Professor Participates In Presidential Rankings Survey

HEMPSTEAD, NY — A new list ranks the 45 presidents using the expertise of more than 150 political experts. One of those who participated in the 2024 Presidential Greatness Project Expert Survey was Meena Bose, director of the Center for the Study of the American Presidency at Hofstra University.

“I was delighted to be invited,” Bose told Patch.

“It’s always tricky trying to evaluate a president who’s in office,” Bose told Patch. “It’s not a closed-case study.”

Biden’s likely opponent in November, former president Trump, has last place.

Abraham Lincoln remains at the top of the survey, while Franklin Roosevelt (2) and George Washington (3) switch positions from the previous list.

Aside from the typical rankings of greatness, the authors delved deeper with questions such as: Who would you like to see added to Mount Rushmore and which presidents are the most over- and under-rated?

“They get into some details that I think are instructive for where we are in American politics today,” Bose said.

While she wasn’t surprised by the top or bottom-ranked presidents, it was the commanders-in-chief in the middle of the pack “where a lot of the interesting discussions take place.”
