Algeria boss Djamel Belmadi on Youcef Atal: “We wish that he raises his standards in terms of professionalism.”

Speaking in quotes picked up by DZ Foot, Algerian national team boss Djamel Belmadi sought to give OGC Nice right-back Youcef Atal a dressing down for not looking after himself adequately.

“We hope for a quick recovery for Youcef Atal who has contracted COVID-19 and we hope that he will be back very soon. His situation could be concerning in the sense that he has been getting quite a few injuries recently. We know that he has weaknesses on certain points. This absolutely has to be sorted out, it is work that has to occur at his club.”

“The fact that he is lacking rhythm and a series of matches mean that he is not yet in his best form. In the minutes that he has been able to play, we could see that they did not reflect the qualities or the performances that Youcef is used to showing. He is aware of it himself, he is looking to discover his best level. He knows he needs to have everything on his side to be able to avoid injury. There are things to do and arrangements to be made when you’re a professional. And then he must regain his level, he is an important player for the national team but he must very quickly be able to play matches and regain the pace he had before his big injury. We wish him good luck and that he becomes aware of the need to raise his standards in terms of professionalism.”
