Patrols Bolstered At Reopened Warminster Road Bridge

HATBORO, PA —With the recent reopening of the Warminster Road Bridge, motorists may notice something on their travels: Enhanced enforcement.

At the recent Borough Council Committee meeting, Hatboro Deputy Police Chief Mark Ruegg stated that the police department would be increasing patrols with the bridge’s reopening.

“We have increased volume again,” Ruegg said. “People haven’t been used to that.”

Ruegg said the added patrols will help to address speeding complaints.

He also said that patrols have been beefed up along a closed section of Horsham Road, adding that the detour hasn’t dumped extra traffic on the borough and that there have not been any complaints of vehicles cutting through.

The Warminster Road Bridge reopened on Feb. 14 after being closed for 10 months.

The bridge connects Hatboro and Upper Moreland Township and goes over Pennypack Creek. An estimated 11,783 motorists travel over the structure daily.

PennDOT replaced the 136-year-old concrete-encased steel beam structure with a prestressed concrete box beam bridge that will be 110 feet long and 38 feet wide.

The new bridge allows for wider lanes and shoulders to improve traffic safety.

Other improvements under this project include constructing a five-foot-wide sidewalk for pedestrians; installing new signs, pavement markings, guide rail, and a pedestrian rapid flashing beacon signal on the south approach; and resurfacing the approach roadways.

Allen Myers, LP of Worcester, PA is the general contractor on the $3,830,278 project, which is financed with 100 percent state funds.
