Driver Killed In Fiery Whitewood Road Crash: Murrieta Police

MURRIETA, CA — A driver died early Monday morning in a fiery crash along Whitewood Road in Murrieta, police confirmed

The driver, whose identity was not released pending notification of next of kin, died at the scene of the crash that was reported around 2 a.m., according to the Murrieta Police Department.

A preliminary investigation by Murrieta police found the driver was heading north on Whitewood, just north of Calle De Tres Amigos. For unknown reasons, the driver’s vehicle veered off the road, struck the curb and smashed into a tree, police said.

The vehicle became fully engulfed in flames.

The driver was the vehicle’s only occupant.

No other injuries were reported.

Murrieta police are still investigating the cause of the crash. They are trying to determine if the driver was impaired. The vehicle speed at the time of the wreck is still unknown. Police do not think other vehicles were involved.

Whitewood Road was closed in both directions for several hours.
