Le Parisien report that 17-year-old PSG central defender Tanguy Kouassi wishes to remain at the club after months of protracted conversations with Les Parisiens, as well as RB Leipzig and AC Milan, over which side he would sign his first professional contract with.
The teenager, who made 13 appearances for the Ligue 1 club’s first team this season, sees his current youth contract expire at the end of this month.
This winter, RB Leipzig showed themselves to be particularly confident that they had convinced the teen to join them for free this summer. His representative, Hakim Hamouche, had been understood to be trying to extract as big a signing-on fee from Kouassi’s eventual professional contract signing as possible.
The player himself has broadly stayed out of proceedings, whilst his agents visit the corners of Europe to meet with potential future destinations for their client. At the same time, they have held multiple meetings with PSG Sporting Director Leonardo. The Brazilian dealmaker has grown frustrated with Kouassi’s representatives’ game and the weak position that the club has been in this case.
Le Parisien claim today that RB Leipzig and AC Milan are no longer in the race for the teenager and those close to Kouassi believe that his desire is to remain at PSG. His agents have been told to finalise discussions with Leonardo.
Although the relationship is good between the player and the club, he wants playing time guarantees in the medium term, which is difficult in a club that is looking to win the Champions’ League, and that French football regulations limit the length of a first professional contract to three years. If negotiations fail with PSG, the player has already gone through the other projects on the table and has selected two or three other projects that he is interested in, all of clubs with very big standing in Europe.
We have to remain prudent in this situation, but the player has taken his decision, and only a nightmare round of final negotiations could scupper Kouassi signing professionally with PSG.
