ATM Skimming Device Found At Montclair Bank Drive-Thru: Police

MONTCLAIR, NJ — Another ATM “skimming device” was recently found at a bank drive-thru in Essex County – this time in Montclair, authorities say.

According to the Montclair Police Department, a technician at the Bank of America on Valley Road reported that he found the device attached to the drive-thru ATM while making a repair on March 19.

The devices are used to capture card data from customers.

It isn’t known when the skimming device found at the Bank of America’s drive-thru was attached, Montclair police said. Authorities added that the device was confiscated and processed for fingerprints.

Montclair isn’t the only place in Essex County where skimming has recently taken place.

Last week, the Nutley Police Department asked residents to be on the lookout after a skimming device was found at the Proponent Bank on Washington Avenue.

Nutley police said an investigation continues into a similar ATM skimming incident that took place in January at the Capitol One location on Franklin Avenue. Authorities previously said it is possible that officers seized the device before the thieves obtained personal information from any potential victims in that case.

In past years, other ATM skimming devices have been found in Nutley at the drive-through ATM at the PNC Bank on Franklin Avenue, and at an ATM at the 7-Eleven on Passaic Avenue.
