CANTON, CT — With the current town chief administrative officer set to retire soon, the Canton Town Council Monday took action to ensure a smooth transition.
The Canton Board of Selectmen, at a special meeting on Monday, July 23, unanimously voted to appoint Canton Parks and Recreation Director Taryn Schrager to be the interim CAO.
She will replace the retiring Robert Skinner when he steps down later in the summer, according to Canton First Selectman Kevin Witkos.

“Taryn’s willingness to serve in this capacity is another testament to her desire to serve the residents of Canton,” Witkos said.

Witkos said she “exemplifies many of the skills and attributes that a chief administrative officer requires.”
According to Witkos, Schrager will begin to “shadow” Skinner over the course of the next few weeks attending meetings to learn the specific role of the CAO.
“We are lucky to have someone with Taryn’s skills on our staff and willing to take the helm on an interim basis,” Witkos said.
Selectmen made the appointment at a special, virtual meeting Monday that lasted only a few minutes.
