Oxfam to host "Get the look: London Fashion Week"

UK charity Oxfam has teamed up with stylist Emma Slade-Edmondson to launch
a unique public event named “Get the look: London Fashion Week- the Oxfam
takeover.” During the event, set to take place September 19 at Oxford’s
Dalston Kingsland store, Slade-Edmondson will recreate LFW looks right
after they emerge on the catwalks – only using second-hand clothing
available in store.

The event will be broadcasted live to the public on Twitter as well as
Instagram at @CharityFashlive and @CharityFashionLive respectively. Fashion
photographer Rachel Manns will also be on hand to photograph each look as
it is presented on the charity shop catwalk, and the Oxfam team will share
a play-by-play account of the day, predict trends and offer style tips on
social media as well. Other London Oxfam stores will also be hashtagging
the event with #FashionSalvage during the day.

The charity fashion event is brought to the public via partners Recycle for
London and Love Your Clothes, campaigns developed to encourage UK consumers
to be more mindful with their apparel. Together with Recycle for London and
Love Your Clothes, Oxfam will also have a number of designers and upcycling
specialists on deck to show consumers how they can alter, repair and
re-style items of pre-loved clothing to turn them into new looks.

“Fast fashion has created a climate in which people have a throw away
relationship with their clothes, with over 350,000 tonnes of clothing going
into landfill in the UK every year,” commented Slade-Edmondson. “With a
little creativity, we can all put something really stunning together using
second hand threads.”
