Delhi’s Last Elephant, Lakshmi, Missing For Two Months Traced, Mahout Arrested

Lakshmi, a female elephant which went ‘missing’ from the national capital in July has been finally found.

Delhi Police said that the missing elephant was traced by forest officials near Yamuna Khadar area.

“We received a complaint on July 6 regarding the missing elephant. We have recovered him last night and arrested the mahout. The owner too will be arrested soon. We had informed the forest officials during the night. We will soon shift her from the police station,” Jasmeet Singh, DCP East said.

According to reports, the 41-year-old elephant has been missing since July when forest officials reached Shakarpur in east Delhi to seize the animal on a court order.
