Thierry Henry uses Barcelona example to discuss Kylian Mbappé’s saga

It was anticipated that rumours around Kylian Mbappé’s future at Paris Saint-Germain would go quiet after the Frenchman’s contract renewal with PSG. But a series of newly-published reports have noted that Mbappé is considering leaving the French capital in the upcoming January transfer window.

It is suggested that Mbappé is not happy with his role in the team. While on international duty with France last time, the forward also admitted that he would like to play more as a second striker (the role played by the former Monaco man for Didier Deschamps’ side) rather than as a centre-forward. His displeasure with his on-field role, backed by the clashes of egos in the dressing room, has put Mbappé’s future at PSG back in uncertainty.

On the air with CBS, Thierry Henry discussed the ongoing saga around the 23-year-old. According to the former Arsenal striker, the player needs to keep his head down and listen to the manager’s orders as Henry would do during his playing days at Barcelona, even though he did not like playing on the wing for them.

As quoted by RMC Sport, Henry said:

“Nobody likes to be exposed to what they are not good at. He doesn’t like it, that’s all. But there’s something bigger than everything else: the club. I didn’t like playing on the wing at Barça, but I had to do it.”

He continued:

“In the end, there is only one rule: if the coach asks you to do something, you do it for the good of the team. And the team wins! If the team was losing, I would have understood the debate.”
