Monaco’s Wissam Ben Yedder dreams of playing in World Cup 2022

Wissam Ben Yedder notched a hat trick in Monaco‘s 4-1 win against Nantes on Sunday. Following the game, the former Sevilla striker admitted that he would like to represent France in the World Cup.

Speaking to Canal+, the 32-year-old reminded Didier Deschamps of his presence as he pledged to never give up on his attempt to ensure a spot in France’s World Cup squad. As quoted by RMC Sport, the striker said:

“I have never given up on anything, I continue to give my all. Everyone is dreaming of this World Cup and this squad. Everyone is paying attention.

He added:

“I’m doing my best to get back up and keep working. The team comes first too. We saw that [getting] a place in the squad [for the World Cup] is difficult. Everyone is good. It’s up to the coach to make his choices. I won’t give up.”

The result against Nantes was Monaco’s fourth successive win in the league. Thanks to the team’s productive form of late, Monaco have now climbed up to fifth place and are now pushing for the top four spots in the Ligue 1 table.
