David's Bridal Receives Bid To Keep East Brunswick, Other Stores Open

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — David’s Bridal on Route 18 may feature some big discounts currently. Residents may have also seen notices of no return on merchandise. Although there is speculation that the store might close, the bridal gown retailer isn’t calling it a day yet.

The company told Patch it recently received a “going-concern bid” from a buyer that would keep 195 stores, including the one in East Brunswick open and save about 7,000 jobs.

“While we still have much work to do in order to proceed with seeking approval, and as nothing is certain, this could potentially be a great outcome for David’s Bridal. This bid, if approved, would provide new money to support a go-forward David’s Bridal with potentially 195 stores. Our discussions continue to focus on this opportunity, and we will use the coming days to engage in discussions with the bidder and our key stakeholders,” the company told Patch in a statement.

CEO James Marcum said the company “continues to be challenged by the post-COVID environment and uncertain economic conditions, leading us to take this step to identify a buyer who can continue to operate our business going forward.”

The company currently has eight locations in New Jersey, including Deptford, East Brunswick, Freehold, Maple Shade, Mays Landing, Paramus, Totowa and Watchung.

Despite the uncertainty, the store promises to fulfill all customer orders on time.

“Across our David’s Bridal stores in New Jersey, we intend to fulfill orders without disruption or delay, and customers should not expect to see any change in the unparalleled service level they have come to expect from our Dream Makers,” the company said.
