NORTHRIDGE, CA — A Metrolink train struck and killed a man in Northridge Wednesday evening.
The crash occurred in the 8900 block of Corbin Avenue at 6:05 p.m. — the same time firefighters were called to respond to a homeless encampment fire a few blocks away from the train fatality.
According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, a man in his 50s was struck and killed at the scene.

“Sadly, one man, approximately 50 years old, was fatally struck by a train,” said fire department spokesman Nicholas Prange. “Paramedics arrived to assess the man, only to find he was beyond medical help.”
The scene has been handed over to Los Angeles Police Department for investigation, he added.

Police have not said what led to the collision.
At the same time paramedics were called to the scene, firefighters were being called to nearby West Nordhoff Street where a fire had broken out at a large homeless encampment.
