WALLINGFORD, CT — After a whirlwind first few months, the new owner of Crescent Moon Shoppe is in the midst of a mini-renovation at the unique store in downtown Wallingford.
Crescent Moon Shoppe, located at 235 Center Street, is a “new age and metaphysical shop that carries a range of items from crystals to candles, incense, jewelry, loose leaf tea, herbs and tarot cards as well as a wide variety of unique and thoughtful gifts,” according to owner Amy Carroll.
“We also work with a group of amazing psychic and intuitive readers that offer tarot readings, oracle readings, animal communication, mediumship, and other types of psychic readings in our reading room,” Carroll said. “Crescent Moon Shoppe is a fun, laid-back and unique shopping experience, whether they believe in the mystical and magical world or not. There is something for everyone.”

Carroll took over the store from her aunt, Vanessa Gibbs, and became the owner at the beginning of September. Gibbs originally opened the store in June 2019, and is still a partner in the business, according to Carroll.
Carroll said owning a business was never really a goal of hers, “but when the opportunity to own a business in downtown Wallingford arose, it was really an easy decision.”

Gibbs opened Crescent Moon Shoppe right before COVID started, and Carroll said the “shop was lucky enough to survive through the pandemic.”
“This past summer, Vanessa decided to focus more on her Shamanic work and energy healing services that she offers,” Carroll said. “With her busy schedule, I was helping her out over the summer by working some shifts for her, and when the time came to make a decision about keeping the shop open, (her husband) Josh and I had the idea to take over the day-to-day business running of the shop and officially took over September 1.”
Carroll said the whole experience has been a “crazy whirlwind of emotions.”

“I took over right before the busiest time of the year for downtown Wallingford, with Celebrate Wallingford, The Holiday Stroll, and the holiday shopping season,” she said. “So, between getting the shop ready and making the changes and updates that I wanted to implement and preparing for the downtown events, these last few months have been super busy. But, we have gotten great feedback from the community and have customers coming to our shop from all around the state because our amazing customers are helping to spread the word. I am also extremely grateful for the kindness and support from our neighboring businesses.”
With the shop’s “mini-renovation,” Carroll said they are rearranging inventory and opening up one of their rooms as an event space.
“We are going to be hosting classes, such as introduction to tarot reading, astrology, manifestation, and meditation,” she said. “We are also going to be holding events like psychic fairs, crafting nights, pop-up shops and more. The room will also be available to book for parties, birthday parties for all ages, girls’ night out, etc.
“I’m always looking for any psychic or intuitive readers who are looking for a space to do their readings, as well as anyone who is interested in hosting a class, event, or a pop-up shop in our new space.”
