LA GRANGE, IL – Jan. 12 may have been the last traditional snow day that Lyons Township High School will see in a long time or perhaps ever.
The school allowed itself one such snow day this year in which no remote learning took place. Next school year, the schedule permits no such days. In other words, remote lessons must take place when in-person classes are canceled.
In addition to Jan. 12, the school shut down four days later because of frigid temperatures, but it was an e-learning day.

The state limits a school to five remote learning days a year. So if more are needed, the school needs to add days to its schedule at the end of the year, unless it already has such time built in.
At this week’s school board meeting, Superintendent Brian Waterman said the school tries to avoid tacking days at the end of the year because it impacts summer programs.

“We try to do everything we can to be in person,” he said.
Board President Dawn Aubert replied, “There is a lot of joy over having a traditional snow day.”
“There always is,” Waterman said.
