LA GRANGE, IL – La Grange officials on Monday went through their laundry list of planned projects in the coming years. One of the items drew praise from a resident.
It was a $140,000 this budget year for updating the plan on drainage improvements north of 47th Street.
The engineer’s report is planned for April.

During public comments at the Village Board meeting, Laura West, who lives in the 100 block of Sunset Avenue, said the report was a “glimmer of hope” for those north of 47th. She said she was looking forward to the engineer’s report.
“These are difficult problems, and I am glad we are not saying that it’s too hard and going to throw our hands up in the air,” West said. “I know we are pushing through a lot of brick walls to make it happen.”

She described La Grange as “amazing,” saying she appreciated the village’s hard work. But she said everyone knows flooding casts a dark shadow over what’s good about the town.
“Anything that is done (about flooding) is an investment in this community,” West said.
For the last couple of years, she has been regularly speaking to the Village Board about flooding, saying her corner is particularly bad. She has often said the village’s pace is too slow.
Also on Monday, the village reported it is still spending money on designing the long-awaited multimillion-dollar 50th Street storm sewer project. The stormwater from the sewer would be deposited into the Heidelberg Materials quarry in McCook.
The start of that project is contingent on litigation. La Grange prevailed over Heidelberg in court last year, but the company appealed.
