NORTHPORT, NY — A Northport condominium went ablaze on Wednesday afternoon, causing a firefighter to suffer a minor injury, Northport Police Department Chief Chris Hughes said.
The fire started around 2:15 p.m. on Lisa Drive. The condo has four units attached, and the fire started in one of the middle units, Hughes said. Fire, smoke and water damage extended to the adjacent units, he said.
Fire and police personnel were on the scene quickly, and the fire was brought under control in a matter of minutes, Hughes said. Suffolk County Police Arson Investigators responded to help Northport Detective Stephen Kerekes investigate the fire’s cause.

“I commend the Northport Fire Department on their quick and professional response to this emergency,” Hughes told Patch. “Their actions allowed them to stop the fire quickly and minimize damage to the adjacent units. This fire could have easily destroyed all four units if it were not for their exceptional efforts.”
The fire does not appear suspicious and the cause is under investigation, Suffolk police said.
