JOLIET, IL — Despite several examples of major redevelopment success stories across Joliet’s downtown, there is one commercial property that always stays empty, year after year, no matter who is the mayor of Joliet or the city manager or the city economic development director. Nobody wants to buy the old McBrody’s Sports Bar even though for sale signs have been plastered across the front of the former downtown Joliet tavern for many years now.
Even though McBrody’s is directly across the street from the new 10-story Will County Courthouse that opened in November 2020, nobody wants to purchase McBrody’s.
According to the Coldwell Banker Realty website, the former McBrody’s property is actively being marketed for sale at $475,000.

In October 2021, Patch reported the new listing price was $475,000, according Mark Koenig, owner and broker with The Koenig Group.

Despite the price reduction of almost $125,000, a buyer has not stepped forward at any point during the past three years, leaving downtown Joliet’s Will County Courthouse stuck with a vacant building for the fourth year in a row now.
Meanwhile, at the Will County Supervisor of Assessments website, the current property owner of the former McBrody’s property is listed as JB Property Pros LLC. The two previous sales of the property at 73 West Jefferson Street were in 2017 when it sold for $245,000 and back in 2003 when it sold for $425,000.
