Duo Robs Fast-Food Place, Leads Cops On Chase With Child In Car: PD

LAFAYETTE, CA — Two men were arrested in connection with a robbery Wednesday afternoon in Lafayette after leading officers on a chase, the Lafayette Police Department said.

Around 2 p.m. Wednesday, Lafayette police officers responded to a robbery reported at a fast-food restaurant in the 3500 block of Mt. Diablo Boulevard and determined the suspect’s car was involved in armed robberies earlier that day in Solano and Marin counties.

At about 2:12 p.m., an officer spotted the suspect vehicle headed westbound on state Highway 24. The driver accelerated and led the officer on a high-speed pursuit speed onto westbound Camino Pablo and then San Pablo Dam Road toward El Sobrante, police said.

The chase continued until the suspect driver lost traction on San Pablo Dam Road and collided with a car in the opposite lane.

Two people in the car— identified as 24-year-old Jajuan Ojeda of Oakland and 39-year-old Aevra Traylor of Sacramento — were taken into custody.

Ojeda also had his 7-year-old son in the car, police said.

Both Ojeda and Traylor had multiple warrants for their arrest and were booked into the Martinez jail on suspicion of robbery, felony evasion and child endangerment.

The driver of the car struck on San Pablo Dam Road was taken to a hospital as a precaution.

Records showed Ojeda remained in custody Friday at the Martinez jail without bail on a parole hold.

Traylor was also still in custody but at the West County jail where his bail was set at $410,000.

The investigation was ongoing, police said.
