Panel To Reminisce On Pleasanton Life In The 50s

PLEASANTON, CA — As the world speeds forward, it can be nice to take a step back in time. This Sunday in Livermore, a panel of experts will speak about what it was like to live in Pleasanton in the 1950s, particularly in the agriculture and ranching communities.

Panelists include:

Donna Kamp McMillion, author of “Cruising Down Memory Lane: Stories of Pleasanton in the 1950s,” is organizing and moderating panels all over the Tri-Valley to celebrate and preserve local history. She’s already conducted seven panels in Pleasanton, and is planning talks in Dublin and Danville.

Her book “Cruising Down Memory Lane” compiles scores of interviews conducted by 50 volunteers over three years of people who remember life in Pleasanton in the 50s. It was Towne Center Books’ best-selling book of 2023, but McMillion and the Three Valleys Community Foundation have donated all proceeds to Amador Valley High School’s journalism program. Recently, she cut the program a $10,000 check.

Sunday’s panel will take place at 2 p.m. at the Civic Center Library’s Storytime Room on 1188 S. Livermore Avenue. Copies of the book will be on-site, as will a 1929 Ford Roadster owned by former Pleasanton Fire Chief George Withers will be on display outside the library.
