Quinceañera Industry Tapped For Lake Elsinore Outlets Event Hall

LAKE ELSINORE, CA — An 8,116-square-foot vacant space inside the Outlets at Lake Elsinore mall is scheduled to open as an event hall for special bookings and private gatherings.

A conditional use permit for Elysian Event Hall was finalized this week by the city, and though a business permit was still pending as of Tuesday afternoon, an October opening is planned.

The venue is expected to host weddings, birthday parties, and celebrations of life, among others, though Quinceañeras are forecast to bring in the majority of bookings, according to Marco Salcedo, who has partnered with his father on the venture.

A Quinceañera is a celebration of a girl’s 15th birthday — her transition to womanhood. The life event is a milestone in Mexican and other Latin American cultures. Many little girls look forward to their Quinceañera well before they reach their teens.

“It’s a very big deal,” Salcedo explained.

Some families spend thousands of dollars on their daughters’ Quinceañeras. The price tag can include the venue, dress, DJ, photographer, cake, decorations, beverages, food and more. The parties are often large — immediate and extended family, friends and schoolmates.

In recent years, the events have become more lavish, moving beyond the family backyard celebration.

The Salcedos have witnessed the industry’s explosion up close. The two men, who share the same first and last names, have operated event halls in surrounding cities, including Perris and San Diego.

Before getting into the event venue business, the elder Salcedo — who was a graphic designer by trade — launched a magazine dedicated to everything Quinceañera, which exposed him to industry and contacts around the globe.

Quinceañera-related expos and other ventures followed, including event halls.

“The Quinceañera market is huge,” the younger Salcedo explained. “It’s really exploded over the last 10 years.”

Latino purchasing power in the United States has increased rapidly, growing from less than $2 trillion in 2011 to well over $3 trillion in 2021, according to a report from Marketplace.org that cited 2023 research by the Latino Donor Collaborative and Arizona State University.

In Lake Elsinore, half of the population identifies as Hispanic or Latino, and the city has welcomed the Salcedos’ business.

“The city helped us make this happen,” the younger Salcedo said. “They have been so supportive.”

The new venue will not be without rules, of course. Some of the city requirements include shutting down all events by midnight and hiring certified security guards — at least one guard for every 80 event guests.

The Salcedos say the Lake Elsinore mall will be a safe place for young people to gather. According to the venue’s website, Elysian is “a sanctuary for celebrating life’s milestones, fostering connections, and creating cherished memories.”

Elysian Event Hall will be located in suite 177 of the Outlets at Lake Elsinore, 17600 Collier Avenue. While the hall is not expected to open until October, inquiries are being accepted. Visit https://www.elysianhall.com/ for more information.
