Official | Benjamin Mendy makes world-record move to Manchester City

Manchester City have confirmed the arrival of Monaco left-back Benjamin Mendy, for a fee in the region of €58m, making him the most expensive defender in footballing history.

Following weeks of social media teasing and numerous rumours, the Frenchman has finally signed a deal with the Premier League side, as he penned a five-year contract.

After a spectacular campaign with the Principality outfit, and eventual Ligue 1 champions, the France international has moved on to pastures new.

City’s new number 22 underwent a medical in Los Angeles in the U.S. where the team are training on their tour of the country.

“I am absolutely delighted to be joining Manchester City,” said Mendy, “They are one of Europe’s leading clubs and in Pep Guardiola they have a manager committed to playing attacking football. I am sure that over the next few years we will be successful.”

Manchester City Director of Football, Txiki Begiristain, added, “Benjamin has all the qualities we are looking for in a full-back. For such a young player, he has a wealth of top-level experience. He is undoubtedly one of the world’s best full-backs, our number one target in this position. We are all delighted to have him here at Manchester City.”
